This is as good as it gets from a laborer. And it didn’t leak.... yet. Steel to PVC to Cast Iron with rubber boots in between.

Those rubber boots are life savors for DIY half-hack plumbing repair. Almost every P trap slip joint has been replaced by one in my house - some have been there at least 15 years with no leaking.
